The Cannon was a fucking dangerous place.God help anyone who went in there and fucked around.

Shotguns, chainsaws, even saw Mick the hump(Bartender) get found guilty of nearly accidentaly burning the place down and he got hung(literally) for a couple of minutes, until Bill the Biker whipped out a Samurai sword and cut him down.

Then the football started.

The lower down the pyramid, the more often you will hear the tactical instruction of "SQUEEZE" being bellowed from the touchline.

Went to one non-League game and just as the home side kicked off, someone shouted "get rid of it"!!...that was a fan though, not their manager.

If you're referring to MORGAN FERRIER, he went from.Borehamwood to D&R, the D&R owner pulled his money out and fucked off, and MF went back to THE WOOD on a cheap deal

That was still happening in the 80's mate, when we were still a league club.I missed a lot of the kick offs as I'd still be in The Cannon across the street!

Also from Step 3 down there are going to be more leagues with fewer teams in each leagues. Never quite understood that, as yes there's less travelling but also less home games to generate income from.

Re: The Vanarama National League.

Correct. There is also a growing trend of teams winning their respective leagues and refusing promotion due to the cost of travel.

The entire non league pyramid is being rejigged a bit this season, more play offs, less relegations in some divisions. They are trying to make it more regional so teams don't have to fork out so much for travelling around.

Me too, but mostly in the early and mid-1970s. They used to do a strange thing with the kick-off. The centre forward would pass it short to the fellow next to him, who would then send it straight out to the wing. Strange, but they always did it. Dunno if that continued into non-league days.

Visit The Rec Len and support the Shots, it gets quite tense watching real football,oh, and you don't need binoculars.

I wonder how long Leyton Orient will be stuck there. Currently they are 29 points behind leaders Macclesfield. It's not fair on Barry Hearne who would like to sell the ground before he snuffs it.

Am guessing they started to copy the 8 team finals system of the Australian Football league but lost their nerve when it got to the double chance and preliminary finals.

JAFKD is right Len, second and third placed teams go straight into the semi final playoffs, 4th to 7th play down to two teams to face them then the winner of the final goes up with the team that wins the league.

Re: The Vanarama National League.
Hmm, not sure Len?

I thought the top team were promoted with one other that wins the playoffs? I do know four go down.
